RESUMO

The industry interest on having a better control in the distortions provoked by welding of aluminum plates, caused by the crescent demand of this material, motivated the development of this work. In this work, it is studied the deformation caused by TIG welding in aluminum plates, alloy Al 5052, in function of the cold working degree (tempers) on the plates and in function of the welding direction in relation to the rolling direction. Were used plates with three different tempers (O, H32 and H34) and the welds were made parallel and perpendicular to the rolling direction. The welding distortions were evaluated by means of a methodology developed in this work. With this methodology was possible to quantify the results through the longitudinal and transversal distortion coefficients. Additionally, for a better understanding of the results, it was carried out a micrographic analysis by means of optical microscopy and Eletron Backscatter Diffraction (EBSD) over the base metal and the heat affected zone (HAZ). With the EBSD analysis it was obtained results about the crystallographic texture on the base metal, which were evaluated by means of Orientation Distribution Function (ODF). The distortions caused by welding were evaluated with a significance level of the results of 10%. The results of the distortions showed the occurrence of longitudinal and transversal deformations in all conditions evaluated. It was discovered that the welding direction parallel to the rolling direction of the material cause the largest distortion compared to the direction welding perpendicular to the rolling direction. This influence of the welding direction was relevant in consequence of the presence of Brass texture in the rolling material. The influence of the cold working degree of the material over the quantity of distortions was as much relevant as the welding direction in relation to the rolling direction. The distortion coefficient increased with the increase of the cold working degree of the plates. It was also verified an increase in the width of the HAF in function of the cold working degree of the material, as well as an increase of the distortions caused by the welding
