RESUMO

The principal purpose of this study has emphasized the occupation of native lands in the current state of Roraima, named âox hoof,â since the Kingâs farms creation at the end of the XVII century, besides the installation of several private farms by the white people who were responsible for expulsing the Indians to the heads of the rivers, to Guyanaâs Cooperative, ex- English Guyana, and Venezuela borders. This expulsion was testified by several reporters, religious leaders, scholars, SPI or FUNAI government employees, or just simple adventurers who passed by the region. This analysis overturned the myth of âpacific close associationâ between Indians and non-Indians, so broadcast in the region by the most various groups which do not have any interest in seeing the delimited native lands. Besides the occupation of native areas, we concerned about analyzing the Indiansâ forms of resistance in capturing their lands, and specially, the Catholic church participation and its catechization project among native population in two distinct moments: one of them was idealized by SÃo Bento Order in 1909 and the other, behind the Emancipationâs Theology, by the Consolata Institute in 1970. The objective was to identify the type of the project which the religious leaders assumed due to the question of native lands occupation in the region. At last, we observed other actorsâ positioning in this process and detached among them: politicians, businessmen, prospectors, merchants, farmers and the proper leaders of the State, who consolidate more and more forces to obstruct the delimitation of native areas, mainly in permanent areas
