RESUMO

A numerical method to solve the linearized, steady state, axisymmetric equations of motion of a secondary flow of a gas within a rotating cylinder is presented. The boundary conditions at the solid surfaces are decomposed into symmetric and antisymmetric cases. Due to certain invariant; properties, new boundary conditions for both cases are developed at the middle plane of the cylinder. In consequence; only a fourth of the cross-sectional area of the cylinder has to be considered in the numerical solution of either case. In order to obtain the numerical results, a finite difference second order method was used. Great care had to be taken in choosing grid points duo to the violent variations of flow parameters. The final solution is obtained by the superposition of the two particular solutions. The numerical results are in good agreement with analytical aproximate solutions
