RESUMO

In this work several analytical methods have been studied and applied to the identification of phases and determination of individual concentrations in multicomponent mixtures obtained from the synthesis of the superconductor material Yba2Cu3O7-d for several cationic ratios. Single phase components were identified by computer simulation of the experimental diffractograms. Concentrations were then calculated by the External Standard Method using the reference intensities calculated for each of the components. The results of the qualitative methods applied to our samples confirmed the presence of the superconducting phase Yba2Cu3O7-d, the semiconducting phases Y2BaCuO5 and BaCuO2, and CuO. In most of the samples Y2BaCuO5 and CuO were present in variable quantities. Only one of the samples contained the BaCuO2 phase. Our results confirmed the practical applicability of the computer simulation methods for the identification of single phase components in complex mixtures which would be hard to analyze by traditional methods. Furthermore, the quantitative method used in this work proved to be quite convenient when combined with the computer simulation of the diffractograms thus establishing a very practical methodology for this type of phase analysis
