RESUMO

A methodology for the elaboration of thematic maps for military use in the scale 1:100.000 is developed. Techniques of digital processing and visual analysis of remote sensing images were used. The thematic mapper sensor of the Landsat Satellite was employed and the selected area of study was Formosa (GO), with. coordinates (μ = 15°30 / 15°37 30" south and λ = 47°15 /47°22 30" west). The analysis of the spectral, spatial and temporal attributes of digital. and hotographic paper images of the Thematic Mapper Landsat helped by ancillary data (pedology, topography, geology, potential agriculture use, etc.) and ground observations of surficial characteristics constitute the framework for this paper. Four thematic products are developed depending on the disponibility of the above mentioned data. A comparison among them as well as with a standard product (Military Chart from the Geographic Service of the Army) was done aiming at military applications. The principal contribution of the work is to make possible the use of thematic maps through satellite images as well as to allow a constant updating of existent maps.
