RESUMO

This study aimed to describe the structure of the mesozooplankton community from the Pina Basin, Recife, PE-Brazil. Different time scales were used: tidal, seasonal and on a spatial gradient: from the interior of the estuary, subject to continental influence, and until the connection to the ocean, with more marine influence. The zooplankton was analyzed in terms of composition, density, biomass and environmental variables: rainfall, temperature and salinity. Samples were collected with plankton net (200 μm) through horizontal hauls in the dry and rainy seasons. 70 taxa were identified, 28 corresponding to Copepoda. Acartia lilljeborgi occurred in 97% of the samples and Cirripedia nauplii occurred in 93% of the samples. Eigth species of Copepoda dominate that ecosystem, with 90% of the density values Acartia Lilljeborgi, Centropages velificatus, Oithona hebes, Temora turbinata, Acartia Lilljeborgi , Oithona oculata, Pseudodiaptomus acutus, Parvocalanus crassirostris, Acartia Lilljeborgi , e Corycaeus giesbrechti. The maximum densities (12,701 ind.m3) were observed in the intermediate rain-dry season showing that in this area, the rainfall effect influences directly the structure of the mesozooplankton community.
