RESUMO
The evaluation of void fraction in gas liquid two-phase flow is essential for a through understanding of the fluid hydrodynamics associated tothe multiphase flow. Many void fraction measurement techniques have been developed, and those already known have been improved, so that the goal of measuring them faster and more acurately may be attained. The present work deals with experimental void fraction measurement in a two phase air-water flow, by using a gamma-ray attenuation technique. Several upward vertical flow patterns in a 104-mm cylindrical tube were simulated. The air flow varied form 5 to 450 m3/h and the water flow varied from 5 to 25 m3/h for each determined, based on the measured linear void fractions, and the flow pattern was observed. The results were compared with some other authors data and showed a good agreement, not only for the void fractions, but also for the flow patterns. Besides, for all possible cases, the distribution parameter (Co), which takes into account the non uniformity of the flow and the concentration phase profiles in Zuber and Findlay s model, was calculated
