RESUMO

The purpose of this work was to develop a simple and efficient method for analyzing Cr species in solution , using a cation exchange column under constant flow conditions . This method was used to investigate the stability of Cr(VI). The development and construction of the experimental apparatus was part of this work. The apparatus constructed control flow rate of eluent, volume of sample injected and temperature of analysis, reducing the possibility of error as well as exposure of the analyst to radioactivity. The key parts of the system are a peristaltic pump of good efficiency and stability, which controls the flow rate; a sample injection valve, which permits standardized injection volumes and reduces the dead volume of the column, and a water jacket for the column which permits good temperature control. These components can be used with any ion exchange separation. This analysis system was used to study the stability of 51Cr(VI) in acid and neutral media, varying the conditions of flow rate, sample volume, eluent, temperature and pre-treatment of Hor Na form cation exchange resin. These modifications improved the analysis of Cr(VI) and Cr(III), in its monomeric(Cr(H2O)6), complexed (CrXn()) and polymeric forms, resulting in more sensitive routine analyses. The good performance of the system with respect to stability, reproducibility, simplicity and efficiency was demonstrated.
