RESUMO

The objective of this study was to verify the existence of significant associations between alleles of the ovine MHC (OLA - ovine leucocyte antigen) with characteristics of performance, carcass and resistance to gastrointestinal parasites in purebred Santa Inês sheep and their crosses with Bergamasca, Texel and Ile de France sires from different localities. The genetic diversity of this genomic region in populations of Santa Inês sheep from three different farms in the Brazilian Center-West and that of the University of Brasilia. Thirteen microsatellite loci, located on chromosome 20, were used. The markers studied showed high genetic variability between individuals. A significant association (p<0,05) between carcass characteristics and OPG was observed in the ovine MHC. The studied genomic region was shown to be highly polymorphic, coinciding with the consulted bibliography. The populations analysed showed a reduction in genetic variability, causing subdivision of the same. The association results should be verified by larger sampling and confirmation in other populations, as well the MHC region was suitable to studies of herd management.
