RESUMO

Abstract In this article, we will discuss how the evocation of the imagery of the Constitutional Revolution of 1932 in the newspaper O Estado de S. Paulo would provide new symbolic meanings to their aspirations for influencing the political crisis of the second government of Getulio Vargas (1951-1954). This evocation would habilitate the newspaper to return to the antigetulista fighting against a "dictatorship", neglecting the democratic framework in which the second government of Vargas developed. The evocation of this imaginary would allow the newspaper to strengthen the idea that the "dictatorship" of the Estado Novo would continue during this period, demanding resistance actions similar to those deployed in Sao Paulo on the occasion of the Constitutional Revolution of 1932.
