RESUMO
Abstract This essay contains a critical analysis of Mexican reality regarding the protection of human rights. The main thesis holds the existence of a human rights crisis in spite of the protection offered by the valid legal framework. In order to demonstrate the hypothesis, first it will be exposed the virtues of the Mexican legal framework, explaining the main aspects of the latest human rights constitutional amendment and analyzing the different mechanisms of protection that operate (or should operate) in the country. Afterwards, the main critique will be done contrasting that legal framework with its actual operation. Finally, I will suggest that the way to protect human rights goes beyond the legal area, reaching the fields of Politics and Sociology, because the solution to surpass this crisis is not in the change of the legal order, but in its application.
