RESUMO

Direct Iiquefaction of black Iiquor was studied from the puiping process of wood like eucaliptus, pinus elliiotti and taeda, and of Iignin obtained as subproduct in the acid hydrolysis of eucaliptus through the sodium formate/water/argon system. The reactions were realized under hydrogenolysis and acid hydrolysis conditions at temperature and pressures of 300°C and 12 MPa, in a 1 I autoclave and a continuous tubular reactor with 3 m high and nominal diameter of 1 1/2", both projected and buiit to that purpose. The conversions of raw-materials as well as the quality and the oil yield were affected by parameters Iike: raw-material dilution, pH of the reactional environment, quantity of sodium formate added, temperature, pressure and pH of extraction of organic phase. The use of sodium formate as reductor showed a relevant improvement in the quality and the yield of the oil; making possible the Iiquefaction under lower temperatures. The oil yield showed to be dependent to the raw-material origin. It was obtained 87,7% of yield to Iiquor Rigesa I, 44,5% to Champion I and 14,6% to Champlon II (continuous reactor), 71,5% to Rigesa II, 35.5% to Rigesa III (continuos reactor), 47,1% to eucaliptus hydrolitic Iignin in the autoclave and 61,0% in the continuous reactor. The products obtained were characterized as heavy oil with calorific capacity of about 39,1 MJ kg, minimum percentage of oxygen of 23,7% and maximum relation H/C of 1,3. The heavy oils were characterized by spectroscopy IV. RHNH and ele- mentary analysis. In the aqueous phase, it was mainly observed alcohols and carboxylic acids. The only gaseous product identified in the liquefaction was carbon dioxide.
