RESUMO

Based on data assembled in the HRCB, SP and UEC herbaria plus field collections, a list of dicotyledonous lianas of the Atlantic rain forest of the State of São Paulo is presented. It consists of 361 species in 141 genera in a total of 42 families. The species are briefly described, based on the bibliography available. Phenological data from the specimen labels, allied to field observation were considered. The results obtained for the whole species set demonstrated a bimodal flowering rhythm with a peak in February, another in November and a third, smaller, peak in July. The fruiting rhythm was relatively non-seasonal. The six most species-rich families were Asteraceae (13% or 47 spp.), Fabaceae (11,0% or 40 spp.), Bignoniaceae (9,0% or 33 spp.), Sapindaceae (7,4% or 27 spp.), Convolvulaceae (7,2% or 26 spp.) and Asclepiadaceae (7,2% or 26 spp.). To the total of species, the best represented dispersal mechanism was anemochory (52,4%), followed by other mechanisms (24,1%) and zoochory (23,5%). The correlation between dispersal mechanism and flowering and fruiting rhythms was also analyzed. The number of herbarium specimens was considered an indicator of abundance for the most species-rich families, so that abundant species ones total 11,7%, rare 46,2% and common species 42,1%. The term liana was accepted to designate all plants with a climbing habits
