RESUMO

This exploratory research aims to develop a descriptive and analytical study about the conceptions of image literature and the image production of Childrens Literature Books. The specific objectives of this study are: aresearch on the literature about the theoretical basis of the methods for reading and their application on image reading; a study about how the process of semiosis in image reading is developed; a research about the legitimation and recognition of Childrens Literature in institutions that foster reading as an activity; and the verification of how the image creation process in childrens books is done, by exploring the elements of sense and meaning production. The methodological approach was based on interviews with three renowned Brazilian Childrens Books illustrators, in order to study the contrast between creation intentions and reception impressions, as well as the analysis of four works, based on a script for semiotic analysis of still images. As final result, this research has provided subsidies to image reading via the esthetic appreciation and semiosis, to interested researchers working with the investigation of imagetic childrens texts.
