RESUMO

ABSTRACT We are living in urgent times where we are always under pressure to have abilities and skills and be ready to take some actions and solve some problems. Thus, in the school environment, as well as outside it, it is absolutely necessary to review the concept of the reading process and in spite of the technological and scientific revolution, it presents itself (the reading process) as a legitimate communicative dimension of power. Then, it is not possible to conceive such action limiting it according to the space of a school subject, knowledge area or a teachers action, even if it is concerning the Portuguese language. This fact happens due to the existential world we live in (and have our relations in) that totally exceeds those limits, and the necessity of comprehension of some concepts, such as literacy and reading, as well as a revision of other ones such as beginning literacy and awareness, is a major issue. Thus, this research analyses and questions the meanings connected to the reading process, having as its goal the proposal of interventions that favor careful analysis and reflections according to the reading processes in which curricular practices with the academic text may constitute a collective work of enhancement of the students critical and reflexive capacity (reading) and the teachers (leading reading practices). In order to apprehend the perceptions of sense that the subjects attribute to the reading, the methodology of observation participant was used, and for the collected data, semi-structured questionnaires were answered by students and teachers. The bibliographical part was based on the theoretical reference of Jean Foucambert, Magda Becker Soares and Paulo Freire, among others. The results showed us the necessity of a more effective methodology that deals with the reading process of an academic text, having in mind the overcoming of the difficulties that the reading activities impose on students, as well as teachers. Nevertheless the existence of some institutional actions already made which suggests the necessity of a cooperative work that can solve some problems concerning this issue that goes beyond a school discipline and hence, putting this work into a collective perspective.
