RESUMO

This work was developed in the Serra do Rola-Moça State Park, Minas Gerais, between July of 2005 and January of 2006. The Park is located in the boundary amidst Belo Horizonte, Ibirité, Brumadinho and Nova Lima cities, and it is considered a urban conservation unit, due to the human activities in the adjacent areas of the park. The general objective was analyzed the urban growth in adjacent areas of the park, and its consequences for the ecosystems in its inserted. The satellite images representing the areas of the Park and its adjacent areas were selected, and they had been obtained in 1989, by TM/LANDSAT 5 sensor, in 2002, by ETM/LANDSAT 7 sensor, and in 2004, obtained by IKONOS satellite. After that, maps of the urban occupation in the adjacent areas of the Park have been generated, among the years of 1989 and 2002, and of use and covering of the soil of the Park, in 2004. The urban growth arrived to a rate of 44,44 ha/year, for the buffer of 1500 meters around the PESRM, among the years of 1989 and 2002. Starting from the use and covering of the soil map, it was verified that the human interventions are penetrating the areas of the Park, by the urban occupation, the agriculture or the mining. In a second moment, four communities were selected of each one of the cities around the Park. They were appraised as its attitudes and conservation behavior, as its interaction with the conservation unit, starting from the application of questionnaires. It was verified that these communities dont have knowledge of the environmental characteristics of the Park, and that they have been used natural resources of the Park, of an irregular way.
