RESUMO
This study focuses its attention on Kantian writings brought to us predominately by French sources, interpreted by the priest Diogo Antonio Feijó, on the intent of bringing fundaments to his political and possibly his religious convictions, and by Tobias Barreto, a representative of the school of Recife and a precursor of culturalism in Brazil. The objective of the study is to bring about a reappraisal of the "Philosophy Notebooks" of priest Diogo Antonio Feijo and of the works of Tobias Barreto, both of which bring traces of Kantian thinking, and represent, to some historians, two moments of the presence of Immanuel Kants philosophy in XIX century Brazil. These moments are characterized by chronology and historicity , but not by philosophical reflection , because priest Diogo Antonio Feijós (1784-1843) and Tobias Barretos (1839-1889) productions suffered the same consequences when making use of secondary sources to understand criticism. That situation proves itself true through the analysis of their works and the understanding of the historical moment in which they were generated.
