RESUMO

The central subject of this dissertation is the newspaper at school, its use in class as a resource of didactic support, but, mainly, as incentive to the practice of reading and, consequently, as a means for the critical interpretation of the reality by the students, favoring, this way, his/her process to the formation of the citizen hood. This study of case departs from the premise that the printed journalism can ? and even must ? be used as an auxiliary resource in the process of teaching-learning, once its texts and all its editorial content be critically analyzed. For that, it was evaluated the several programs of newspaper in education developed in Brazil, approaching the use of the printed periodic in class as instrument of incentive to literacy social practice. They are initiatives that, on a hand, aim the formation of new readers, and, on the other hand, invest on the consolidation of instruments of defense of the liberty of expression and a richer and more critical interpretation of the reality. As in Bahia just the A Tarde newspaper keeps, since 1996, a program entitled A Tarde na Escola ? A Tarde at School ? the major part of the research was concentrated on this experience, in the construction of a study of case that allowed to understand how experiences like these have contributed to the formation of students as more creative readers and more critical in relation to the social context to which they belong, developing, this way, the necessary mechanisms to the construction of the full citizen hood. Having as the basis the inventory of the pedagogic techniques and strategies used by the educators that participate of the A Tarde program, and also comparing them to what is done nowadays by several other enterprises of social communication in all country, it was possible to build one referential with suggestions to correct,develop and enlarge the actuation of this program.
