RESUMO

Investigates the professional organization of the working of teachers in the São Paulo State Public School System, with emphasis on the professionals’ amount of journey working and on the historical process of construction of job organization. Tries to reconstitute the historical processes of changes of the amount of journey working that have taken place in the São Paulo State Public Elementary and Middle Schools, since their first formulations, in the thirties, up to 1978, year in which the political authorities and the professionals themselves were concerned with the need of establishing functional and legal rules for issues related to workers’rights. The eighties are also focussed as the decade that became known for the process of political and institutional democratization of the country and, in São Paulo State, for the restructuring and consolidation of APEOESP - The Association of Teachers of S. Paulo State Public Schools - which, in 1990, became a professional syndicate. Taking as starting point theoretical concerns and reflections on the job of teaching and on the polemical process of proletarianization that, as some authors point out, it has been undergoing, the study discusses the presence of some elements of this process in the public schools of the state of São Paulo, along with other elements of the pre capitalist era of the modes of production.
