RESUMO

Starch gel electrophoresis methodology has been developed for the analysis of isozymes in Euterpe (heart of palm) plants. Several accessions of E.oleracea, E.edulis, F hybrids between as well as some populations of tillering and non tillering Euterpe of uncertain taxonomic classification were analysed. PRX, EST, APS, ADH, PGI, ME, GOT and PPO isozymes were comparatively studied in stem, heart of palm and pólen of adult plants, as well as in roots and leaves, from seedling to adult stage. Genetic polymorphism have been detected in the genus for alI the isozymes systems studied. In some of them, although on a preliminary basis, possible loci have been determined along with the quaternary structure of the isozyme specified by them. Also key markers have allowed the identification at any developmental stage of interspecific hybrids of potential agronomic value, helped the caracterization of heart of palm received by processing plants as well as the establishment of the putative origin of some taxonomically uncertain Euterpe spp. populations as related to E.oleracea, E. edulis or both
