RESUMO

Based on the hypothesis that the mother tongue s teachers have difficulty to approach contextual grammar, in other words, grammar involved in the construction of text s meaning, through expressive resources used by author, we intend to do an action research taking the eight grade of the fundamental level from a public school in Maringá - Paraná. This study is part of a bigger project in Applied Linguistics whose basis is processual and etnographic. It has been developed by Departamento de Letras Vernáculas e Clássicas at Universidade Estadual de Londrina (UEL), whose title is Writing and grammatical teaching: a new look to an old problem. Specifically, this dissertation investigated the teaching of grammar, observing, analyzing and reflecting by itself the teaching s practices to check if the focus given to grammar is an end in itself and turns to real situation of communication, assuring the perception of the elements that construct meanings in reading and re-writing processes. Another aim of this research is to suggest actions proposal to work with contextual grammar in schools in order to help the teaching and learning of the mother tongue. An efficient work can happen if teacher works with different kinds of texts, including student s texts, integrating reading, writing and linguistic analysis, without artificiality. The starting point of the Applied Linguistics research is to observe directly the interactive processes of the uses of language which justifies this paper s methodology, that is etnographic basis, qualitative with diagnosis and intervention investigation. It consists in audio recording and classes transcription by the searcher teacher, so that based on this we can work with analysis and reflection. Data analysis reveal that the searcher teacher, although she has theoretical knowledge obtained through readings in the field of language teaching, found some difficulty in using the presupposition assumed here. In spite of this fact, the reflection on own pedagogical practice becomes the work more productive because the conscious awareness is a way in changing direction.
