RESUMO

The central-western region of the Carajás Strike-Slip Fault System comprises several mineral deposits currently under exploitation by the Vale do Rio Doce Mining Company. The geological and structural understanding of this region favors prospective initiatives within the Carajás Mineral Province. Remote sensing imagery, such as JERS-1/SAR, R-99B/SAR and Landsat 7/ETM+) and magnetic airborne geophysical data (CPRM/PGBC-1020) were used for geological and structural interpretation of the region. The individual and integrated analysis of these data allowed discriminating lithologic and structural domains. The characterization of the deformational processes that affect the region was accomplished by combining these results with data collected in the field. Results of the geophysical data processing allowed the production of magnetic images, which enhanced magnetic domains and regional lineaments. Based on the analysis of the radial power spectrum of the anomalous magnetic field it was possible to estimate deep sources (approximately 4.7 km), as well as shallow sources (1.9 km) for the magnetic features. Remote sensing image interpretation allowed the geometric analysis of lineaments, establishing a chronologic sequence for deformational events along the directions: E-W, NW-SE, NE-SW, NNW-SSE and N-S. Depending on each specific sensor, and their respective image acquisition geometries, these directions tend to be enhanced or smoothed
