RESUMO

In this work two methods to treat the dynamic soil-structure interaction phenomena are compared: a Superposi tion Method (SPM) and the Boundary Element Method (BEM) .Complete compliances matrices for the dynamic interaction of bidimensional surface and embedded foundation structures, interacting through the soil in frequency domain are obtained. A discussion on the importance of mesh density and discretized field length in the accuracy of the results obtained by BEM is presented. Vibrations isolation of footings separated by open barriers are presented to illustrate the versatility of the boundary element method compared to the so called "semi-analitical solutions" or superposition method. The main steps for formulation and implementation of the BEM based on a Green s function approach are also described
