RESUMO

This work simulated prebiotic conditions existed on primordial Earth and studiedthe interaction between forsterite-91, cysteine and artificial seawater. These interactions were studied in aqueous medium at two values of pH 2.0 and 8.0. The samples of olivine plus distilled water and artificial seawater were mixed for 24h, centrifuged, the solids and supernatants were separated and lyophilized. It was used spectroscopy (UV, FT-IR, Raman, EPR and Mössbauer), chemical (Zeta Potential and PZC) and mineralogical techniques (XRDand SEM-EDS) to analyze the data obtained. The results of XRD and SEM-EDS show that under conditions used forsterite-91 was dissolved and this process interfered with the interaction between forsterite-91 and cysteine, favoring the formation of cystine. Analysis of FT-IR, Raman and SEM-EDS indicate that there was no adsorption of cysteine or cystine on the forsterite-91. For the samples without olivine, it was observed that the salts of artificial seawater, basic pH values and high concentrations of cysteine are factors that lead to formation of cystine, indicating that this reaction does not occur only in the presence of Fe3+.Therefore, it can be concluded that minerals such as forsterite-91 can play a secondary role in the interaction with cysteine.
