Inter-relações família trabalho: o casal e a empresa familiar

RESUMO

The present paper assesses the family business, giving emphasis to the manager couple, from which we have tried to understand the crisis and conflicts that emerge in the company and in the couples relationship, and how each ones roles interfere in the couples professional life as well as in their marriage. In this inter-personal and social relationship, roles were identified through the Systemic Theory, in a network of meanings that made worth the investigation by its broadness, especially because, so far, the related questions have had little attention from organizations and researchers, both abroad and in Brazil. The subject studied was that regarding family-work inter-relations, paying close attention to the founder and manager couple of a family enterprise, using seven first generation businesses as the sample. The main goal was to evaluate the managerial problems of those companies and the inter-connection with the couples own marriage. We decided for the qualitative analysis of the study of multiple cases, involving business of small and medium sizes, through semi-structured interviews, which provided the features and the collection of data on the business partners and couple managers. The investigations took into consideration topics such as family managerial model, business strategic plan, financial crises, growth process, and expansion. We could clearly notice how the roles experienced by the pairs of couples interfered in the business managerial model, especially in each gender. The copying strategies before conflicts and the business difficulties were unilateral, varying from the wifes silence to the husbands caution whenever they had to make decisions. The family-work problems could be seen as inter-related conflicts, in which the pressures of the role at work and in the familys domain were mutually incompatible. After the research was finished, one could say that the business crisis has impact in the couple as well as the couples crisis has impact in itself, as a united entity, and in the people that compound it: the husband and the wife. The business, different from the couple, practically follows its own course without being affected. However, positive records have pointed to the optimal performance of the family business, which presents a great possibility of becoming a more human model of business, bringing to its own core a vivid relation in the familys environment.
