RESUMO

This dissertation aimed to know the imaginary of a group formed by institutionalized elderly men and women and other people involved in the organization of a nursing home located in GoiÃnia-GO on the space occupied by them, considering the issue of gender. For this, the Archetype of Nine Elements Test, or AT-9 (DURAND, Y. 1998), the Sensitive Architecture (PITTA, 1998), the Sandplay (KALF, 1986) and the listening pedagogy (CARVALHO, 1990) were used. The listening provided the chance of unveiling, through the subjects speeches, the reciprocal complaints and praises and registering the mnemonic punctuations of their past and present life. Data analysis, carried out based on the teories of the Imaginary (DURAND, G., 1997), Complexity (MORIN, 1990), Gerontology and Psychology, revealed unstructured imaginary among the subjects of the three categories analyzed. Mythical data informed that the elderly â men and women â did not want to fight; however, sometimes they reacted due to the social pressures in the nursing home, showing disseminatory imaginary. The subjects of this research resignified negatively the space they occupy in the nursing home. The instruments applied reflected the structure of the institution studied, the group dissatisfaction and the difference between the imaginary of elderly men and women. The emergency of unstructure in the imaginary of the elderly men and women under study might have received the influence of time of permanence in the nursing home, as well as of other factors. The presence of unstructured imaginary among the people involved in the organization of the nursing home could also have been a fact that contributed to the unstructure in the imaginary of the elderly men and women. Several suggestions to reorganize the studied institution are presented, taking into consideration the imagetic-symbolic representations of the group.
