RESUMO

This study investigates innovation into organizational context, considering its multifaceted multidimensional nature, in order to identify factors that favor or constrain the new ideas and practices implementation process. Based on the pertinent literature, several theoretical conceptions concerning innovation are presented, focusing its comprehension as a process and its types and its attributes characterization, as well as initiatives toward its management. An exploratory, qualitative research was conducted in three Brazilian organizations where innovations were introduced. Achieved results with interviews and documental analysis made possible categorizing innovations into the researched organizations. Ten categories for innovation favorable factors and twelve categories for innovation unfavorable factors were identified. Inter-relations could be perceived among those factors in the ideas and practices implementation process. Moreover, favorable and unfavorable factors configuration seems to be specific to the organization where innovation is inserted, so each context demands an analysis for its specificities. Conclusions point innovation as a complex dynamic process, fostered by collective interactions and embedded in a somewhat level of uncertainness, which can be successful or unsuccessful into organizational context, due to environmental factors implications that deserve special attention from those who manage innovation.
