RESUMO
This study evaluated the influence of bleaching agents, photoactivated or not, on the resistance to fracture of sound teeth. Ninety superior incisors were randomly divided into 9 groups (n=10) according to the surface treatment performed on the vestibular face: GI 35% carbamide peroxide, GII - 38% hydrogen peroxide, GIII - halogen light, GIV - LED-laser system, GV 35% carbamide peroxide + halogen light, GVI - 38% hydrogen peroxide + halogen light, GVII - 35% carbamide peroxide + LED-laser system, GVIII 38% hydrogen peroxide + LED-laser system and GIX - without treatment (control). The bleaching gel was applied for 20 seconds, photoactivated or not or during that period. The procedures were repeated 6 times, in a single session. The distance of the activation source to dental surface was standardized in 10 mm. Teeth were included in acrylic resin until cementoenamel junction and fixed in 135 inclination device to test to the fracture resistance in Universal Testing Machine. The Tukey test demonstrated that GI (0.15 0.06 kN) and GVI (0.19 0.07 kN) were statistically similar among themselves (p>0.05), presented the smallest resistance values and were statistically different (p<0.05) from GV (0.65 0.49 kN), which had the largest resistance values. The other groups presented intermediate values, which were sometimes statistically similar (p>0.05) to the group of the largest means or sometimes similar to the group of the smallest means. All the analyzed groups were statistically similar (p>0.05) to the control group. It was concluded that 35% carbamide peroxide and 38% hydrogen peroxide, used separately or photoactivated, as well as the photoactivator used solely, did not alter the fracture resistance of teeth submitted to the external bleaching.
