RESUMO

The aim of the present work was verify the influence of the pressure and temperature on the index of the sorption and desorption of acrylic resin cured by energy of microwaves at 500W for 3 minutes and compared to the method of water bathing for 73 ±J: l°e for 9 hours. Eighty samples were made in agreement with the specification n.o 12 of Dental American Association. The samples were joined in 8 groups (GI, GIl, GlIl, GIV, GV, GVI, GVIl and GVIII) with 10 repetitions each one. The groups I to IV was cured by water bathing and the groups V to VIII were cured by microwaves energy, they were still divided with the following treatments of water sorption: (GI, GIII, GV and GVII) immersion in water, pressure sets, temperature of 37°e for 30 days; (GII, GIV, GVI and GVIII) immersion in water, pressure of 40 Lbs., temperature of 90oe for 60 minutes. After this period the groups were submitted to the sorption test described by the specification n.o 12 of A. D. A.. For the desorption test the groups were divided in: (GI, GII, GV and GVI) pressure sets, temperature of 37°e and inside dry heater; (GIII, GIV, GVII and GVIII) pressure sets, temperature of 37°e and inside the water in dry heater. The results were statistically analized by "t" test and when analized they allowed to conclude that the resins that were submitted to the sorption test gained water and consequently weight increasing, and the samples that were submitted to the pressure increase, temperature, whose desorption occurred inside the water, had their weight stabilized with no alterations. Keywords: acrylic resin, microwaves, water sorption, water desorption
