RESUMO

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of Age, School and Fluoridated Dentirnce on the toothbrushing habits in a sample compound by 124 children aged 3-9, ITom Public (1) and Private (2) schools ITom Rio Claro city - SP, with fluoridated water at optimal levels (0.7 ppm F) using two Dentirnces Tandy UvafT (1,100 ppm of sodium fluoride) and Super Branco/SB (1,500 ppm of sodium monofluorphosphate). Each child brushed his/heir teeth with both Dentirnces with a weekly interval between the brushes. The variables were considered as Age, School and Dentirnce Type which influenced the Dentirnce Amount Placed on tooth brush (DAP), Fluoride Amount Placed on toothbrush (F AP), Dentirnce Amount Ingested (DAI), Fluoride Amount Ingested (F AI), Amount of toothbrush Parts Covered by the Dentifuce (APC) and Brushing Time (BT), conceming about hygiene habits. The analyses of Fluoride amount Ingested was based on the difference between the fluoride placed on toothbrush and expectorated amounts. The resuIts obtained were submitted to ANOV A test.. It was observed that the DAP on brush independent ITom the child s Age was significantly influenced by the School attended. The children ITom School 2 placed a higher amount of Dentirnce than the ones ITom School 1 and the T Dentirnce was placed in a higher amount in both Schools. The children ITom School 2 placed a significantly higher amount of Fluoride on their toothbrush ITom SB Dentirnce. No significant statistical difference was observed on the SB Dentifuce Ingestion for both Schools. Similar results were observed for T Dentirnce. However, the SB Dentirnce ingestion was significantly higher for both Schools in relation to T Dentirnce. The Fluoride Ingestion in School 1 was more evident than in the School 2. The Age influenced DAP, that is, the higher the age, the higher DAP. The T Dentifrice was placed in a higher amount by children. BT for both Schools was similar regarding to both Dentifrices, although School 2 showed higher BT than School 1. The authors concluded that there was no influence of Age in relation to DAP, FAP, DAI, FAI and BT, however Age influenced significantly the DAP; the variable School influenced significantly DAP, FAP and BT; the Dentifrice Type influenced significantly DAP, FAP, DAI, PAP and BT. The children in the sample showed high Ingestion of Fluoride from Fluoridated Dentifrice in the dental fluorosis susceptibility window. mainly in relation to the Dentifrice Type
