RESUMO

The caprine arthritis encephalitis (CAE) is a disease of chronic and debilitating condition caused by a virus the family Retroviridae, subfamily lentivirus and Orthoretrovirinae gender. In transmission, the milk and colostrum from goats infected serving as an important means of virus carrier, but work on the changes in the milk of infected goats are scarce. In order to evaluate the influence of CAE virus in dairy production, samples of mammary gland of seropositive and seronegative goats for the CAE, and performed histopathology and immunohistochemistry, the physic-chemical composition (fat, dry matter, protein, lactose and density) were obtained by analyzing ultrasonic milk samples from 54 goats, no racial predilection, which are divided into two groups: positive and negative goats to the test in agarose gel immunodiffusion (AGID); and 30 samples of milk were used for standard plate count (SPC) for the presence of mesophilic (CFU / mL). The results of physical-chemical analysis showed no significant difference between the milk samples of two groups. In the microbiological analysis showed the presence of aerobic mesophilic bacteria, but this change is not associated with the presence of CAEV infection. On histopathology, there were areas with infiltration of mononuclear-leukocyte and polymorph nuclear, plasma cells, fibrosis and absence of normal morphology of the mammary tissue, indicating a chronic inflammatory process; and confirmed the presence of virus, in the gland, by immunohistochemistry. It has the necessity more directed studies to evaluate the changes of the mammary gland in goats naturally infected with CAEV and further work on the changes in milk production as milk itself, taking longer interval of time and at different stages of evaluating disease.
