Influence of genetic and environmental factors on production and reproduction traits in a nellore cattle herd in Goias state HERD IN GOIAS STATE / Estudo da influência de fatores genéticos e ambientais sobre as características produtivas e reprodutivas em um rebalho de bovinos da raça Nelore no Estado de Goiás

The objective of this study was evaluate genetic and non-genetic factors which influence production and reproduction traits in a Nelore herd in Goiás state. Direct and maternal heritabilites and direct and common environmental effects were evaluated for birth weight (PN), weaning weight corrected for 205 days (P205), age at first calving (IPP), calving interval (IEP) and real fertility (FR), as well as genetic correlations between traits of interest. Data came from a Nelore herd in Padre Bernardo, Goiás State which has 1400 females and 1300 males. The SAS and MTDFREML programs were used to analyse the data. The fixed effects of animal/calf and month and year of birth/calving were significant (p<0,001) for PN, P205 and FR. The parturition number was only significant (p<0,001) for P205 and FR. For IPP and IEP year of birth/calving was significant, as was number for parturition for IEP. The means for PN, P205, IPP, IEP and FR were 29.56 Kg, 115.73 Kg, 1340.6 days, 539.47 days and 88.41 Kg calf weaned per year, respectively. The heritability (direct and maternal) for PN and P205 were 0.28 and 0.73; 0.13 and 0.02 respectively. IPP, IEP and FR did not show maternal heritability, with direct heritabilities 0.29, 0.10 and 0.16 respectively. Permanent environment effects were found for PN (0.73) and P205 (0.02). Genetic correlations between PN x P205, IPP x IEP, IEP x FR and FR x P205 were 0.42, 0.54, 0.33 and 0.64, respectively. Regressions of DEPs on year showed that selection for P205 improved the other traits.
