RESUMO

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of facial divergency and anterior cranial base length on apical base and teeth positions, and sexual dimorphism by using McNAMARAâs Cephalometric analysis. Forty-two lateral Cephalometric radiographs of young Brazilians from the northeastern region of Brazil, 17 male and 25 female, ranging from 12 to 16 years of age, were used as sample. All presented permanent dentition and normal occlusion. Nine linear and 5 angular Cephalometric values were studied. The results showed that according to variations of SN.GoGn angle, facial divergency produced significantly different results for the FMA angle, facial axis (BaN.PtGn) and lower anterior facial height (ENA-Me). According to its variation, the anterior cranial base length (S-N) significantly influenced lower anterior facial height (ENA-Me), maxillary length (Co- A) and mandibular length (Co-Gn). Significantly larger values were found for S-N, Co-A and Co-Gn, for the male group
