RESUMO

Zaprionus indianus was introduced in Brazil accidentally, probably through world business of fruits. Environmental favorable conditions and the absence of natural enemies, have been responsible to wide distribution for the whole country, infesting figs and native fruits, causing damages in crop fruits. An alternative of control of this fly could be entomopathogenic fungi. This work had as objective evaluate the infectivity of Metarhizium anisopliae on larvae and adults of Z. indianus. The larvae were immersed and the adults were pulverized with suspensions of 104 to 108 conidia/mL. The analyzed biological parameters were: pre-pupa period, pupal stage, rhythm of emergence, percentage of emergence and mortality of adults. The pre-pupa period and the pupal stage of Z. indianus did not have significant alterations regarding the group control (1,3 and 5,9 days, respectively); the percentage of adults emergence was significantly reduced, being less than 3%, in the concentration of 108 conidia/mL. After nine days of infection, 98% of the adults died, in the most elevated concentration. The LC50 was 1,64x105 conidia/mL and 1,94x104 conidia/mL for M. anisopliae URM3349 and URM4403, respectively. The LT50 was from four to six days with 108 conidia/mL. Metarhizium anisopliae re-isolated of Z. indianus did not show morphological alterations, but the colony diameter was bigger than the fungus standard one, reaching 6.76cm. In accordance to the obtained results, two lineages of M. anisopliae tested showed pathogenic action against Z. indianus indicating potentiality for biological control of this insect
