RESUMO

This work presented herein provides guidelines for the structuring of digital chart information, relating to natural coastal hazards, with the use of open source technology. A review of concepts regarding spatial data infrastructure for geospatial information facilitated the choice of open source tools, which would enable the availability of coastal hazard data on the internet. A case study using the database from the project Carta SAO made the creation of a corporative (geo) spatial data infrastructure (SDI) possible. The architecture of the SDI used free software, recommended by the Brazilian initiative (INDE), enabling the provision of information relating to coastal hazards on the internet in an interoperable manner. The validation of the methodology adopted in the case study was performed with coastal hazard data from Itapocorói Cove in order to examine the efficiency of the infrastructure and proposed standards. Four different free and open source GIS platforms were tested to assure the interoperability of the database. The composition of a metadata catalog led to the availability of digital cartographic information with its characteristics preserved, independent of platforms, allowing not only the users who generate data, but also other users, be able to discover, access and use the information.
