RESUMO

The Construction of transmission power lines brings great benefits for the society. However, it uses the natural resources and develops activities that affect the environment. This fact becomes necessary that the Company actions must be guided, in its phases of planning, implantation and operation, towards to execute its mission, considering the constitutional rights of nature preservation. The Environment Management Process for Power Enterprises involves the elaboration of environmental studies and programs(Environmental Impacts Assessment/Escudos de Impacto Ambiental â EIA/RIMA and Environment Basic Plan/Plano BÃsico Ambiental â EBP/PBA) as responses for environmental laws. These studies had shown during building of the Transmission Line - 500 kV - President Dutra/Teresina, 124,14 hectares of babaÃu forest had been destructed in MaranhÃo State. The babaÃu is a predominant plant in MaranhÃo State and has economic importance in the region. The Transmission Line above cited, has 198 extension km, crossing MaranhÃo e Piauà States. However, six regions are directly affected, because are living 496 families that farm there. For this motive, it was structuralized a Program of Social and Environment Education by CHESF that objective acts together to the families who farm activity of babaÃu, towards to provide an improvement in the quality of life of those communities
