RESUMO

The purpose of this work was to verify the influence of a road on a mammals community at Serra do Brigadeiro State Park (PESB). As for that, it was established two grids (G1 and G2) composed of three transects of 300 m each, parallels to the road and distant of it 10 m, 80 m and 150 m respectively. Each transect contained 10 plots of 1,0 x 1,0 m each, being 30 m distant of each other. The plots were prepared from the substrate using a hoe and a sieve and being baited by fruits and meat. Observations were also made away from the grids, where it could be observed other mammals evidences. The collects were performed during the months of february and august 2008. The species richness was estimated from the data of presence or absence in the plots, by the procedure Jackknife 1 using the program EstimateS. It was determined the intensity of habitat use through the number of registers for each species in the transects, being this information analyzed through the test Qui-Quadrado de independência (χ2). In order to quantify the similarity it was applied Sorensens Similarity Index. It was found the register of 23 species of mammals, 15 by the methodology of plots, being omnivores the most representative guild followed by herbivores and carnivores. Traps for animal capture were found and it was detected the presence of domestic animals in the area; elements that affect directly the fauna conservation. The species richness estimated by guild showed the dominant presence of omnivores in two areas, what can be explained by their little specific diet and by the fact that they have better tolerance to altered environments. As for habitat intensity of use, there was no variation between the treatments with exception for species of more abundance. It was verified that the edge effect reached up to 150 m into the forest in both areas. Only in G1 it was observed the species richness being affected by the presence of a road, result which reinforces the hypothesis that administrative activities were directly affecting the mammals more intensively than the road itself. The similarity analysis revealed that in G1 there is a gradual change in species diversity as it gets far from the road, while in G2 it indicated that the species are distributed in an equal way and it can be said that the presence of a road is not really noticed in that location. Therefore, it was observed for PESB that those are typical species of edge environments and generalist taxa.
