RESUMO

The upwelling radiation received by a sensor has three distinct components: target radiation directly transmitted through the atmosphere, diffuse radiation from the background and the diffuse atmospheric radiation. The sum of the last two components is called path radiance, whose effects reduce the spatial and spectral variability of the image. So, in order to remove these effects (haze), a method based on radiative transfer equations was used to estimate expurious radiation reaching the sensor. The atmospheric parameters were collected by a sounding device, and a code, LOWTRAN-6, was used to obtain spectral transmittance in the visible and near-IR ranges. A computer program was developed to improve the quality of the images using calculated data. Appreciable results were achieved.
