RESUMO

This study is about some of the (political and religious) activities of the common people in the cities of the Later Roman Empire. We focus our attention to the relations between the Christian plebs and the Church in Northern Africa. Our approach, though, is by presenting the relations in the broader context of the urban policies of the Later Empire. We aim to understand how the urban mob would be mobilized and led to take an active part in political and religious disputes, what its motivations and expectations were, and how it would act in order to achieve certain goals.
