RESUMO

This work presents considerations on the relationship established among subject/discourse/ideology, from a historical-discoursive perspective. Language is here observed in social contexts in which the individuals are immersed, and linguistic manifestation is considered as proving to be a process capable of materializing this complex relationship by means of enunciation strategies. We try to identify the discourses present in ?Monica?s gang? cartoon magazines, aiming at the analysis of their ideological contents and the ways these contents appear. The study is based on the knowledge produced by the French Discourse Analysis and by Enunciation Theory. Moreover, we systematically raise the conceptions concerning ideology and develop a panorama of the historical background of sequencial art. Then, we attempt to show that the discourses that constitute the cartoons pass ideologies based on concepts, stereotypes and world views that emmerge from collective memory and from practices developed by the subjects in the process of social interaction. We conclude that the cartoons do not present a neutral language and therefore are not exempt from the influence exercised by the social phenomenum called ideology.
