RESUMO

The Unified Health System (SUS), after many conquests and struggles, managed to extend its health cover and access to healthcare, and is currently focusing its attention on a new challenge, which is to introduce a National Program for the Humanization of Hospital Attendance (NHAHP). Actions and strategies are being made possible to improve the human contact between healthcare professionals and users, between professionals, and between the hospital and the community, with the aim of providing quality and effectiveness in the attendance given to users, and promoting a new philosophy of humanization in the Brazilian hospital network which forms part of the SUS. This objective of this work is to analyze, through the perceptions of users attended by the emergency service of a public hospital, or their families, whether they have receive a humanized nursing care, and through the perspectives of the nursing professionals, their care provided to the user. This study takes a qualitative approach, and is of a descriptive and exploratory nature. The participants were users or their families, who had received nursing care, and the nursing professionals working in the emergency unit of a public hospital. For the data collection, in the first stage an interview was carried out with a script of semistructured questions, recorded on MP3, and a field diary was used to record observations and occurrences during the interview. After the classification of the data collected, the second stage of data collection took place in two meetings, one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. The preliminary data were presented to the nursing professionals taking part in the research, and other professionals interested in the theme, for discussion of the results and actions that could contribute to a humanized nursing care. The data were compiled, analyzed and classified into three main categories: 1) Logistics in the nursing care in the emergency room; 2) Nursing Care; 3) Continuing Professional Development. From the results, it was possible to instigate the training of a humanization working group in the hospital, as part of the philosophy of hospital humanization, based on the principles of the National Hospital Attendance Humanization Program and the National Politics of Humanization - Humanize SUS, as defined by the Ministry of Health
