RESUMO

The development of information and communication technologies are directly linked to a evolution initiated by the post offices, radio programs, TV, videos, computer and finally the most sophisticated satellite conferences. With this evolution, teaching at a distance tends to be supported with new technologies, to make easier its access and acceptation. The development of flexible spaces for teaching and learning is the biggest challenge to the teaching at a distance mediated through the computer. In the present work we discuss these aspects, specially the importance and the innovative feature of this modality of teaching as an alternative for a good education, or whether is possible to have a good education using this kind of teaching. Within this focus we analyzed specifically the difference between education, teaching, learning and distance, and the reasons people prefer to use the computer among all the choices available nowadays. The research revealed that the option for a course at a distance through the computer seems to be preferable to people who wants to learn fast to attend the needs of the market. This justifies the increasing number of this type of online course, which seeks to supply a demand of people who did not have access to full education at early age, or people seeking professional qualification. There are also people who do not have explanation for why they want to learn at a distance. This makes us believe that this kind of teaching must be in fashion these days. The profile of the costumers is difficult to diagnose. The learning, as well as the quality of this learning, are difficult to measure due to lack of trustable tools. According to Moram, "Teaching using new Medias will be a revolution, if we change simultaneously the conventional paradigms of teaching that keep teachers and students apart."
