RESUMO

In the following text, there is a review of basic concepts applied to the mixing of binary mixtures The main objective of the study was to apply a recent method known as ANOVA which is based on a confident statistic and it is used to evaluate segregation in binary mixtures Currently in the powder processing industries, the homogeneity is evaluated by CV index For all the experiments, an industrial scale mixer (60 L) known as Ribbon Bender was used Different formulations were processed in the mixer; all ingredients tested are for commercial use in the pharmaceutical area and for the medicated feed area. The ingredients tested were: Rice Hulls, Rice Hulls + 2.5% Mineral Oil, Lactose and Limestone The validation for the optimal mixing time was based on K.S.U. methodology (C.V.). Based on this optimal point, all four formulations were processed to evaluate segregation using ANOVA and for some situations K-W method also The variability of formulations leads to mixtures of different physical characteristics, which provoked different distributions profiles in the assay. These differences impacted in the performance of ANOVA and K-W. According to ANOVA results, all formulations have no segregation, except dry Rice Hulls. In this situation, after outliers elimination, ANOVA and K-W detected segregation in the mixture Comparing ANOVA to CV results, it was found a situation with segregation, according to ANOVA, and the CV for the same mixture indicated a homogeneous system. (Based on the most rigorous criteria which is the pharmaceutical reference value)
