RESUMO

This composition aims to investigate the change of stands of popular pharmaceutical almanac and their readers, relocating them both readers and non-readers, in the social universe of reading practice. Pursuing these reading supports, the tactics and strategies for its appropriation by readers and readers considered non-readers, was revealed. What is an almanac? What is it story? Who reads it? How? Where do they are spread? Which reading practices they develop? The material studied comprehend 4 issues of Almanaque Granado (RJ), 18 issues of Almanaque Biotônico Fontoura (SP), 44 issues of Almanaque IZA (RS) and the complete collection of Almanaque Renascim Sadol (SC) with 246 Almanaque Renascim Sadol readers’ letters sent to editors, statements, interviews and research on newspapers and archives. The large number of copies, gratuity, typographic model and wide distribution net renders the extension and relevance of this literature.
