RESUMO

The study analyses the curriculum of the Medical Course of the School of Medical Sciences of the State University of Campinas (FCM/UNICAMP) based on theoretical assumptions of historical curriculum studies. Such studies, represented by the works of Ivor Goodson, understand the curriculum as a social artifact and necessarily a field of competition and other interests. The research comprehended the period from 1963, when the course began, until 1983, when the last great curriculum alteration happened, prior to the current process of curricular reform, still in progress. The research methodology was based on a range of documentation of the Central File of UNICAMP, regarding the origin of the Medical School of Campinas and the later creation of the State University of Campinas. The social construction of the curriculum is revealed in statements of teachers and former students of the course, through the construction of their memories. The analysis of the changes occurred in the course during the period studied tried to relate them to the wider context of medical teaching in Brazil, showing the contradictions between the medical reform desired by the school and the actual curriculum organized
