RESUMO

The focus of this research has been to make a case study on the history of Music Teaching in Secondary State Schools in Londrina-Pr from the year 1946 to 1971. The year 1946 was chosen as the starting point for having been the year when the first Secondary State School - Ginásio Estadual de Londrina - was open. The year 1971 is the end of the time studied, as it was when the Bill 5.692/71 became law, excluding this discipline from the Secondary School Syllabus. Documents and interviews have been the sources of this research and provided indications to understand how the teaching of Music was organized in two Secondary State Schools in Londrina. The data collected in the interviews gave us the opportunity to make the initial mapping and from there analyse school documents of two big schools from the city, The State School Professor Vicente Rijo which had been offering the Secondary school course since 1946 and the Londrina Institute of Education responsible for the Pedagogical Course since 1945. The starting point, 1946, represents the highlight of the subject Orpheonic Singing in the national state school which has decreased in importance until being extinct in 1971. The data indicated the regularity of offer in the beginning of the studied period, with specialized teachers, specific content and its permanence for some time even after 1961 when it became an optional subject (or diversified part). From 1971, in other places as well as in Londrina, some teachers, who had already been teaching music in the state schools, kept the subject even though it had been substituted for Art.
