RESUMO

The genus Catharanthus belongs to the family Apocynaceae and is composed of 8 species. Under the medicinal aspect anti-carcinogen properties is ascribed and alkaloids are the substances associated to this effect. The studies about the environmental factors such as manuring and harvest time, that interfer on the medicinal species growing conditions are associated to morphophysiological alterations and consequently in the synthesis of substances derived from secondary metabolism. Under this context, by the need for an economical exploration of that potential, for the large scale production of Catharanthus roseus (L.) G. Don (vinca), the present work purposed verify the effects of organic manuring and the harvest times on the growth and development of that specie. In general, the results showed that organic manuring is more favorable for the development of the plants. The RAF, RPF and AFE values showed lesser in the major level of organic manuring (6 kg/m2 of bovine dung). The presence of alkaloids revealed on plants cultivated at the both types of manuring. As to the different harvest times studied, the harvest at 2 months of cultivation showed to be the most favorable for major biomass gain.
