RESUMO

Economic growth and increase of electric energy consumption are unquestioned historical facts and even nowadays, in developing countries, with a very strong correlation. However, the huge appropriation of energy resources and the residues emission in the nature caused by the industrial society had shown incompatible with a necessary environment sustainability, in which would be respected the natural capacity in primary energy reserves replacing and residues recycling. Mainly after the 1970s decade energy crisis, the energy conservation comes to establish itself as an economic-ecological movement directed to increasing efficiency in energy markets production and consumption. Concerning the electric energy question, the Demand-Side Management (DSM) emerges as an electricity sector initiative, which major goal is to stimulate the consumption rationalization. On the other hand, worldwide electric sectors reorganizations take place, through deregulation and incentive to competition in the supply-side. The Electric Energy Strategic Management (EESM) appropriates, adapts and systematizes principles, techniques and approaches both from DSM and the new economic electricity sector environment. Based in a strategic management sistemical approach, its first target is to acquire competitive advantages by reduction enterprises costs and increasing receipts and thus improving economic- financial results. Considering its dissemination over a region, EESM can become a regional competitiveness and productivity vector, and its benefits could be extended to the society as better production factors remuneration, specially in the employment issues, tax collect and income distribution. In the ecological face of the development, the EESM can be admitted as one management technique whose results in terms of economic growth is not followed by the increasing of energy consumption rates and residues emission, on the contrary, due its accomplishment keeps coherency with the principles of the energy conservation. Electricity companies customers of the Médio Vale do Itajaí, which were submitted to a descriptive research, in order to recognize their knowledge of the advantages and application of any EESM technique, manifested low level of information related to the majority of the subjects, mainly those referring new opportunities present in the economic- legal electric sector environment. The general conclusion of this research goes towards the possibility of EESM positive contribution to the regional development and the existence of an appraisable latent potentiality, in sense of individual firms and regional productivities and competitiveness, that could be reached by using EESM
