RESUMO

Mineral production in Brazil has been greatly increased in recent years, particularly in the region of the province of mineral Quadrilátero Ferrífero, which has required on the part of mining companies, adopting policies to control and monitoring of their tailings disposal systems. Recent breakthroughs of these structures have mobilized considerable concern on the part of organs of public authority, environmental, regulators and company design and construction, the implementation of risk management systems. A risk management process consists in the perception of any anomalies associated with security or functionality of a given geotechnical structure; in this context, a risk analysis is performed to determine what decisions or recommendations and therefore implement a risk management. Between the various risk management tools available, the methodology FMECA excels by permitting a basic analysis to provide a structured view of potential modes of break or a more elaborate study through detailed probability analysis associated with multiple integrated systems. The establishment of an Emergency Action Plan (PAE), systemic and aligned the way of risk management, presents itself as a complementary tool to support decisions for each alert level defined in the risk management. The definition, preparing a PAE, should be taken, through a specific analysis, risk conditions downstream of the dam. This work presents the definition and geotechnical details systems of the Tailings Dam Casa de Pedra, aiming at the application of the methodology FMECA risk management and the development of a PAE to the venture. With the application of these methodologies, was deployed a management tool that enables a more secure and efficient operation of the dam and the perception and systematization of impacts and preventions needed in the case of a possible rupture of the dam.
