RESUMO

The information management has become a growing concern in organizations. Recently, several studies have been conducted with this focus on health. However, few authors deal with the issue considering the reality of the public hospitals â specially the teaching ones. In fact, a huge amount of data has been produced without a policy of appropriate management of information. It often results in wrong decisions because of not having the correct information at the appropriate time. This dissertation aims to discuss the problem and submit a proposal for information management for hospitals, universities or not, to have a guide on how to improve the management of their information. For that, was used both approach qualitatively and quantitatively. The high direction of a well regarded teaching hospital of Pernambuco state were interviewed to identify the necessities of information to hospitalÂs management and other managers were questioned in an effort to identify the current configuration of information management in the organization. There were identified shortcomings in strategic elements, such as communication, responsible people and the definition of political and informational process. Considering the conceptual references on organizational management and information management and through a study of case, it was prepared a plan of information management to the hospital. It is expected, with this work, to contribute to stimulate other studies and to the implementation of efficient information management in Brazilian hospitals
